Where to find quirk vending machine malls in Singapore
If you've run out of nail polish and have no time to go to a salon to get your nails done, these days you can get a bottle of nail polish straight from a vending machine.
Lucky for students at Singapore Polytechnic, there's one such machine right at their doorstep at their Dover campus.
Vending machine clusters (not just standalone ones) are on the rise in Singapore, dispensing anything from clothes to sanitary napkins and magazines are readily accessible at malls, petrol kiosks or even HDB void decks.
Although it is a relatively new concept here compared to Japan, these clusters of vending machines are slowly getting popular as they are a more convenient option to get a meal or an emergency item at any time of the day.
To make things even more convenient, these vending machines are also equipped with touchscreens and cashless payment modes so that customers don't have to bring along cash and heavy coins.
To save you the trouble, we've rounded up five vending machine clusters or 'malls' where you can get everything from food to apparels and beauty products. Scroll down to check out if they are located near you.
SP InnoMall
Located at Singapore Polytechnic, the SP InnoMall has machines offering a wide variety of products from nail polish to snacks imported from South Korea. There's even a magazine vending machine where you can get copies of Her World for your reading pleasure.
This vending machine 'mall' concept is an initiative by the school's Business Innovation Centre that aims to encourage SMEs to try new technologies while developing learning opportunities for students.

All systems go at Causeway for holiday season
JOHOR BARU - All 77 car and bus lanes at the Causeway will operate for the coming festive period due to the high volume of traffic expected both ways, the Immigration Department announced.
Johor Immigration chief Datuk Rohaizi Bahari said all 48 lanes at the Second Link in Tuas will also be open.
He said the department was prepared for increased traffic at the Causeway and Second Link as hordes of Malaysians and Singaporeans cross paths during the festive break.
"I hope motorists plan their journeys to avoid being stuck in traffic congestion," he told Sunday Star on Saturday (Dec 16).
The other offices are at the Home Ministry Complex at Setia Tropika here, Kulai, Batu Pahat, Kukup, Segamat, Mersing, Muar and Kluang.
Rohaizi said applying for a new passport and renewals would only take about an hour after payment was made.
He had another piece of vital advice to Malaysians - check if you are on the Immigration travel blacklist.
He said those who failed to pay their National Higher Education Fund Corporation loans or settle their taxes would be barred from exiting, with bankrupts also disallowed.
Recently, Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said almost 800,000 Malaysians are on the travel blacklist and will not be able to travel overseas.

Accidents - WorkplaceSingapore issues more financial bans related to 1MDB scandal
SINGAPORE - Singapore's central bank on Tuesday said it had permanently barred Yeo Jiawei, a former wealth manager of Swiss bank BSI involved in breaches related to Malaysia's 1MDB fund, from managing financial services firms and advisory activities.
In July, a Singapore court jailed Yeo for 4 and 1/2 years for money laundering and cheating in a case linked to investigations into the siphoning of billions of dollars from Malaysian sovereign fund 1MDB.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore said it has issued a permanent prohibition order against Yeo, effective Monday, and a three-year ban for former chief executive of financial advisory firm NRA Capital, Kevin Scully.
"NRA had been appointed to perform the valuation of PetroSaudi Oil Services Limited (PSOSL)," MAS said in a press release.
"Mr Scully had failed to ensure that NRA's valuation of PSOSL was carried out with sufficient care, judgment and objectivity," the central bank added.
MAS has now issued prohibition orders against eight people involved in 1MDB-related breaches, following two bans announced last month.
Once a pet project of Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, who chaired its advisory board, 1MDB is the subject of money-laundering investigations in at least six countries including Switzerland, Singapore and the United States.
Najib has denied any wrongdoing.
Singapore's central bank had said in May that it had ended its two-year review of banks with 1MDB-linked transactions.

Simei resident lines up 7 fridges along HDB corridor to frosty reception from neighbour
Simei resident lines up 7 fridges, furniture in common corridor, blocking neighbour's way
Stomp contributor Julie is at her wits' end regarding her next-door neighbours who have placed bulky items along the common corridor they share with her and other residents at Block 136 Simei Street 1.
Last Sunday (Dec 17) at around 1am, Julie had returned from a trip overseas and struggled to squeeze herself and her luggage through the small space left in the corridor.
In the process, she cut herself on one of the pieces of furniture that were placed outside.
"There are sofas, ceiling-high cabinets, and even a fridge outside of their unit," said the Stomp contributor in a phone interview.
According to Julie, the problem has been around ever since she moved into her seventh-floor unit in December 2015.
She is now worried about her safety.
"My life is at risk," she said. "If a fire breaks out, how am I supposed to run?"
She added that she even struggles to go grocery shopping as she cannot fit her trolley through the corridor to get to the lifts.
When asked if she has talked to her neighbours regarding the problem, she said that they were "unapproachable" and "unfriendly" and she did not want to risk getting into a confrontation.
"I don't know what else to do," she said in exasperation.
"I hope the authorities can do something about it."
In response to Stomp's media queries, a spokesman for East Coast - Fengshan Town Council said that they are aware of the situation and have served notice to the unit.
She added that they are monitoring the situation closely.

Accidents - TrafficBest thing I ate this week: Eggs 'n Things pancakes
What: Fresh Strawberry, Whipped Cream and Macadamia Nuts Pancakes ($19.90)
Where: Eggs 'n Things, Plaza Singapura, #03-79/83
Who doesn't enjoy a good all-day breakfast?
And if you have a soft spot for pancakes, this place offers really decent ones.
Eggs 'n Things has made its first South-east Asian foray outside its native Hawaii, with the opening of a new restaurant at Plaza Singapura today (Dec 20). The chain's other outlets are in Japan and Guam.
At a media preview yesterday, we sampled the desserts (or breakfast, to some) that the cafe is known for - namely the pancakes and waffles, smothered in a mound of whipped cream made from a special recipe.
Between pancakes and waffles, the former were definitely superior, with its thin but fluffy texture.
However, be warned that you'll have to eat them fast, as the light and pillowy cream also means that it starts to melt within minutes - our group saw the tower keeling over before our very eyes as we were taking photos.
There are three sauces to accompany your pancakes - maple syrup, coconut and the uniquely-flavoured guava syrup. But for me, the delicate cream provides just the right amount of sweetness.
A bonus? The strawberries were surprisingly sweet and juicy as well. But I wished that could be more of the crushed macadamias that were sprinkled on top of the cream.
The plates are clearly made to be shared, as the portion of five mini pancakes is good for at least two persons.
Of course, with its namesake, we had to give the eggs a go as well.
I preferred the perfectly-done eggs benny (with smoked salmon and avocado, $19.90) over the rather flat omelette.
Besides breakfast food, they also serve popular Hawaiian favourites, such as the all-too familiar Acai and Ahi Poke bowls, as well as Loco Moco (hamburger patty served with sunny side up eggs on rice, and drenched in brown gravy).
If you've travelled to Tokyo, you may have come across the long queues at its Harajuku outlet, and it remains to be seen if the restaurant in Singapore will also draw an endless crowd. But judging by how Singaporeans love anything that's new, it probably will.
